Belgard Construction in Bonny Doon, CA | Framework Contractors
We’re Framework Contractors, and we provide independent Belgard hardscape construction across Bonny Doon, from paver patios and driveways to segmental retaining walls on steep, wooded parcels. The one thing that makes our Belgard work different here: every install is engineered around Bonny Doon’s Wildland-Urban Interface fire code and slope drainage, not just the paver itself. If you’re planning Belgard pavers or a retaining wall in the 95060, call (844) 681-3590 for a free estimate.
Why Bonny Doon Residents Choose Us for Belgard Service
Belgard makes a lot of good paver lines, but what matters on a Bonny Doon hillside is how the whole system performs: base, drainage, edge restraint, and joint treatment. We have been building hardscape in the Santa Cruz Mountains for years, and we know which Belgard products hold up here and which details fail early, from Belgard in Mount Hermon to steep Bonny Doon grades. Noel Carbajal started on stucco patching and porch reroofs as a kid in Santa Ana, went through the Construction Technology program at Santiago Canyon College, and has spent three decades figuring out what works on difficult grades. We bring that same eye to every Belgard driveway, patio, and wall we build in Bonny Doon.
We are an independent contractor, not a Belgard dealer or authorized service provider. That matters. Our call on which paver, which base, and which wall block suits your property comes from what actually survives wet winters at 1,500 feet, not from a brand quota.
- OEM-compatible Belgard units and matching accessories, never color-mismatched substitutes
- Familiar with Chapter 7A WUI roof, siding, and ember-resistance rules that govern hardscape edges
- Free, written, line-item estimates before any work starts
- Insured and bonded, with one point of contact from first walkthrough to final compaction
We also handle the full envelope of a Bonny Doon property: roofing, windows, fencing, kitchens, baths, and ADUs through our network of 50-plus manufacturer partners. One contractor, every system. That reduces coordination headaches on the rebuilds and remodels this area sees constantly. For more on our general service coverage, see our Bonny Doon service area page.

Common Belgard Construction Problems We Solve in Bonny Doon
- Paver settlement from saturated subgrade. Bonny Doon’s clay-rich mountain soils soak up winter rain, and when water drains toward a patio or driveway edge instead of away from it, fines pump up through the joints and the pavers rock. We re-grade the subgrade and add proper drainage before resetting.
- Moss, algae, and organic staining. Under redwoods and firs, a shaded Belgard patio stays damp for months and leaf litter feeds biological growth in the joints. We remove the growth, re-sand with a stabilized joint product, and adjust grading so water doesn’t linger.
- Retaining wall lean or bulge. Wall block set without geogrid and drainage on a steep Bonny Doon grade will move, especially with frost at 1,500-plus feet. We rebuild the wall with the right grid spacing, drainage aggregate, and batter.
- Joint sand washout and edge restraint heaving. Storm runoff on unpaved private driveways concentrates water in channels. It erodes the joint sand and lifts the edge restraint. We add stabilized sand and stronger edge treatment on any driveway or walk that will see concentrated flow.
- Base failure under driveways. Narrow private roads mean delivery trucks and resident vehicles run on the same 10-foot strip. If the aggregate base is thin, the pavers crack along the wheel track. We spec a deeper, properly compacted base for real traffic loads.
Belgard Service in Bonny Doon: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Hardscape
Bonny Doon is a wildland-urban-interface job from day one. Permitting, defensible space, and fire-resistant materials are not optional add-ons here. They are the whole job. The county’s WUI fire code, including Chapter 7A roof and siding requirements, ember-resistant vents, and 100-foot defensible space, means a Belgard patio or driveway near the structure is part of the fire-defense envelope. A hardscape edge has to be noncombustible, properly graded, and built to survive repeated heavy winter rain on steep private roads. That is different from building the same patio in a flat Santa Cruz County subdivision lot, or even from Belgard repair in Felton on gentler terrain. On a CZU rebuild off a narrow unpaved private drive in the Bonny Doon hills, we reset a Belgard Catalina Grana patio that had heaved two winters running because storm runoff from the uphill slope was going straight under the pavers. We pulled the units, re-graded the subgrade to a positive fall, added a channel drain at the uphill edge, and re-set the pavers on compacted aggregate with a stabilized joint sand. That patio has held through two wet seasons since. Build it right the first time. The second time costs twice as much and nobody’s happy.
Belgard Models & Products We Service in Bonny Doon
We install and repair the Belgard lines that make sense on Bonny Doon terrain: Mega-Arbel large-format slab pavers for modern patios and driveways; Urbana Stone tumbled pavers for driveways and walkways that see real traffic; Catalina and Catalina Grana for rural patios and pathways; and Anchor Highland Stone wall block for retaining and seat walls on slopes. We use Belgard-manufactured matching units plus compatible base, edge restraint, geogrid, and polymeric joint sand. When a wall or patio is structurally sound but weathered, we reset and re-sand before recommending a full tear-out. Replacement is the right call only when the base or subgrade itself is failing. FAQs – Belgard Construction in Bonny Doon
Yes, in most cases. The road width and turn radius dictate staging, truck access, and whether a full concrete pour is feasible. We typically stage from the nearest wide point and cart materials in with a compact loader, and we spec a thicker base because the driveway will see delivery and resident traffic on the same narrow strip. Call (844) 681-3590 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
The WUI code treats the first 5 feet around the structure as a noncombustible zone, and the full 100-foot defensible space governs what can be planted and graded. A Belgard patio or wall right next to the house has to be detailed so it does not create a fuel bed or a place for embers to collect, and the grading has to move water away from the foundation. We handle this on every Bonny Doon estimate.
Most settlement here comes from water, not the paver itself. When uphill runoff runs under the patio or the subgrade is not compacted with the right aggregate, the fine clay soil pumps up and the pavers move. We fix it by re-grading the subgrade, adding an uphill drain where needed, and re-compacting before the pavers go back down.
Moss and algae will take over joints if the patio never dries and leaf litter stays in the gaps. The pavers themselves are not ruined by it. We remove the growth, treat the surface, and re-sand with a stabilized joint product, then adjust grading so water drains off instead of sitting. Call (844) 681-3590 and we will take a look.
We use Belgard-manufactured matching units for any repair or rebuild, plus compatible base, edge restraint, geogrid, and joint sand. Mis-matched colors and thin base are what fail first on Bonny Doon soils, so we do not cut that corner.
